Wildlife is a series of DIY sound instruments built using ESP32 microcontrollers and the Mozzi audio synthesis library. Each instrument has a unique shape and sound, equipped with multiple LDR (light-dependent resistor) sensors that respond to sunlight(or artificial light).
When shadows fall on the sensors, they trigger sound frequencies. Each device includes both audio outputs and built-in speakers, allowing users to connect headphones or integrate the instruments into mixers and audio interfaces for further sound processing.
Inspired by the sundial, each instrument features a gnomon, a protruding part used to cast shadows, designed in different shapes and colors, which users can customize.
The hunt for light begins. In this interactive experience, the audience becomes the main charactor of a sound exploration. As they move to block or reveal light sources, different notes are triggered, encouraging them to shift direction, adjust posture, and play with light and shadow.
As a group follows the light and sound together, they are drawn into a collective experience connected through movement, nature, and improvised sonic interaction. Their bodies become part of the spatial design, creating playful, spontaneous performances shaped by light.
